The Annual Taste of St. Croix was on April 16th at the Divi Carina Bay Resort on our little Rock–St. Croix. If I said I had a wonderful time sampling food and decorating cakes and meeting old and new foodie friends it would be beyond an understatement. There are times I would just like to share a few pictures and let them speak for themselves. I think I might do that on this post. Just a beautiful time!
The week began for me with a cake decorating class taught by one of my FAVORITE foodie Chef’s Chef Duff Goldman! Sigh… This was our blank canvas. The picture above is the finished product. It was a beautiful vanilla double layered cake. These were my cake compatriots! From Left to Right: Lisa Cake Lady Stevens the genius behind the Mango Pound Cake Recipe, Stennett Dariah one of the best bakers on the island, and that lady to the end is actually me! Oh, can you say I was in foodie heaven? And me and Duff. Wait…let me write that again, and me and Duff! Look at that smile on my face! HA!! I think I was having a great time! Then there was the “Taste” itself, where I served as a Judge on the Soup entries. This ticket was one of the most sought after little wrist bands on the island in the days leading up to the Taste. This is me getting ready to go savor great food and an incredible showing of our island community complete with all the food, celebrity, and show it had to offer on this one very special night! A panel of esteemed local and celebrity chefs chatting and sharing their thoughts on food and culture and the event. The young man to the far right is our own Chef Digby Stridiron he is also the Virgin Islands Culinary Ambassador! Like I always say, we have SUCH talent on our little Rock! One of the incredible Soup entries. We judged about ten different soups and they were all just beautifully flavored, prepared, and presented! These sweet treats were made by Christina Murphy of Dulce Cupcakery! My favorite was a lavender cupcake she made that was beyond delicious and perfectly balanced. This bread pudding was incredible! And look at the presentation. Ahhhhmazing! More treats! This display was done by Lisa Stevens. I managed to try the chocolate cupcake. Let’s just say I stood there for a minute on that first bite. Wow! An incredible evening of community and celebration. If you haven’t had a chance to come to our Food and Wine Festival, then it might be time to start packing! Give yourself the treat of this incredible experience! And if you bump into me give a warm island/Crucian hello!!
I made the absolute best mango pound cake from your recipe several times last year. I’ve had a request for it for a baby shower but I can’t find the recipe on your sight any longer. It had pineapple soda in it and was absolutely delicious! Help!
